There are two archaeological sites in the vicinity of the city of Toluca, which can be visited easily. At 30 minutes from the city, is the population of Tenango Valley which hosts Teotenango (which means "place of the wall divine" or city walls). This prehistoric site, it is an extraordinary place, in which its high pyramids provide an impressive view of the valley.
In pre-Hispanic times provided security for its inhabitants, as the city was built on an esplanade top and the rest was guarded by a system of walls, which was used as a military and religious center.
At the foot of the hill Tetépetl is the Archeological Museum Roman Pina Chan, which describes a wide variety of interesting pieces prehispánicas covering different periods that took people matlazinca until the conquest of the Aztecs.
The other is Calixtlahuaca archaeological zone, which comes from the Nahuatl word, which translates as "houses on the plains." This area located at the foot of the hill Calixtlahuaca owes its name to the Mexicas, who called and by the huge number of settlements that conformed.
